Listen to this podcast about art therapy and the role of art in healing and wellness as aired on Louisville public radio.
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which the therapist facilitates the client's art-making and use of the creative process.

I use Art Therapy to assist you in finding new ways to express yourself to achieve insight, wellness, relaxation, and personal growth. You might paint, draw, journal or use photography or sculpture, in addition to processing your artwork verbally and non-verbally. If you are "not an artist" you may feel unsure about this approach, but I find that most clients end up really enjoying the use of art-making and image as part of the therapy process.

I have special training through a masters program in Art Therapy psychology and I hold the professional credential for a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) through the Art Therapy Credentials Board, which states that "Art therapy is a human service profession in which clients, facilitated by the art therapist, use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem. Art therapy practice is grounded in the knowledge of human development, psychological theories, and counseling techniques."
